My first album,
Dhin Tara, was launched in December 98. The music was composed by Ali-Ghani and
lyrics by Nafis Alum. That was my first entry into the music world. The world
of the studio, of sounds, of music sessions, discussions, and the ultimate end
product - the album. Pradeep Guha, then President of The Times of India, helped
me produce my first album, Dhin Tara. Arun Arora, CEO of Times Music,
signed me on to start my journey. Under their banner, I launched seven albums
- four Indipop, and two Rabindra Sangeet fusion where I wanted to take the music
to the larger audience. My second album is called "Raahein"
and was composed by Ravi Pawar. He tried different styles to highlight my voice
and give it a soft and sensuous touch. I loved it all - the selection of the songs,
discussion on the tunes and that informal chatty atmosphere. My third album
was done by Naresh and Paresh Kamat and was called "Glimpse". It's a
remake of old numbers and that album changed my whole outlook towards music and
career. Their composition of music and treatment of the songs inspired me to do
better work and try out different kind of melody with my voice. I was reborn with
that album. All the videos, from Dhin Tara to Glimpse were memorable experiences.
I worked with great people like Shamin Desai , cinematographer Sunil Patel of
Hum Tum fame, Amit Roy of Sarkar fame and Kapil Sharma (the first AD) of Being
Cyrus. I enjoyed working with Deepashri of Times Music who helped me
put together Glimpse in a perfect album and Vishal Nonebit who helped in naming
all the albums, which I always found very interesting. My last three albums were
Electric, Café Kalighat and Kolkata Jam where I worked with Ankur Mukherjee
. He not only understands my voice, my nature, and my attitude towards life, but
also tries to reflect all these in his compositions. Currently, I am
working on a new Hindi Pop album with Ankur which is again different from the
rest of the work I have done. I want my work to emerge as a true form of art that
will endure. In my field of music, I would like to do more interesting and different
kinds of work and that's my inspiration. View
